Your Rising sign, or Ascendant, is the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at your exact birth moment and location. Astrologers use it as the starting point of the first house. That makes it more than a social “mask”: it is the coordinate that organizes the house system and connects planets to areas of life.
Why exact birth time matters
The Ascendant moves through all twelve signs in roughly one day. A sign usually rises for around two hours, but pace varies by latitude and sign. A difference of minutes changes the Ascendant degree; near a boundary, it can change the sign.
